Station Concept¶
In surveying, observations are organized into stations based on the measurement method used. Each observation type has its own lists for stations, and the station concept varies depending on the type of measurement performed.
Conventional Observations¶
A station for conventional observations contains all observations for a measured half-set. This means you can have multiple stations with the same station name, since each half-set constitutes a separate station.
Note
Stations for conventional observations must always be reduced before analysis and calculation.
New observations can be created directly from the station dialog.
Satellite Vectors¶
A station for satellite vectors contains all vectors measured from the same base station. The prerequisite is that the base station does not change instrument height during the measurements.
New satellite vectors are created from the station dialog.
Coordinate Observations (Point Observations)¶
A station for coordinate observations represents a single measurement of a point. Coordinate observations therefore do not have a separate list for stations.
When you edit observations for a point, you are actually editing the station itself.
Leveling Observations¶
A station for leveling observations corresponds to a complete leveling line.
A leveling line typically extends between two known elevation benchmarks. Multiple observations (height differences) can be linked to the same leveling line, so the field does not need to be unique.
