Road Standards and Specifications

When it comes to roads and intersections, Gemini Terrain has integration with the regulations in the road standard (handbook N100). Which regulations form the basis for the design depends on what type of road is involved. For other standards, for example for agricultural roads, we do not have such integration. For these types of roads, you must handle the requirements manually.

For utilities and building excavations, we also do not have integration with standards for the professional field. You must also handle the requirements manually here.

Below you will find internet addresses to some relevant standards and specifications for the professional field.

Road Standards

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has developed several handbooks. On their website we find, among others, the following handbooks:

  • N100: Road and street design
  • N200: Road construction
  • N101: Guardrails and roadside areas
  • V120: Premises for geometric design of roads

Handbook N100 Road and street design provides requirements for the design of the road area from road edge to road edge. Requirements for the construction of the road body are given in handbook N200 Road construction. Requirements for guardrails and side terrain are given in handbook N101 Guardrails and roadside areas.

Municipal Standards

Municipalities have developed their own standards.

The Municipal Technical Road Standard for North Jæren (municipalities Randaberg, Sandnes, Sola and Stavanger) is an example of this.

Standards for Agricultural Roads with Construction Description

The Ministry of Environment has developed a separate guide for designing agricultural roads.

Municipal Utility Standards

The municipal utility standards are often based on templates from Norwegian Water (Norsk Vann). They contain central provisions that are regularly revised by Norwegian Water with extensive use of utility environmental sheets and local provisions that municipalities can add to supplement (override) the central provisions. You can find utility standards from across the country on the internet.
