License System for Gemini Terrain¶
Introduction¶
Starting from version 20, Gemini Terrain uses the 10Duke license system. This gives your company full insight into actual usage and needs, and allows you to manage user access efficiently.
This chapter explains how to get started with the system and how to manage access based on your company's licenses.
License Types¶
- Single License
Assigned to one end user. The organization administrator assigns the license at first use, and the license is locked to the end user. Only Volue can transfer the license to a new end user.
- Multi-user License
Multiple simultaneous end users on Gemini Terrain+ and any additional modules, all members of a group have access and share the license. The organization administrator controls who has access to this license.
Getting Started¶
For Organization Administrators¶
This section applies to the purchasing manager or organization administrator in your company. The administrator is responsible for inviting all end users into the license system, managing access to multi-user licenses, and assigning single licenses at first use. The administrator can also use the organization administration tool to see which licenses are in use.
There may be one or more administrators in the company. The administrator role can be granted or removed by another administrator via the organization administration tool.
Invitation to the License System¶
An invitation to the organization administration tool is sent to the person registered as the license contact in the company. The invitation comes by email from license@volue.com and must be accepted to gain access.
When you accept the invitation, you can choose to log in with an existing account (SSO) or create a new account (username and password). We recommend everyone with Microsoft Office 365 to use Single Sign On (SSO), so you can use the same username and password across applications. Click Sign in here at the top to select this option.
If you do not have Microsoft login, you must create an account and remember your username and password.
Create account (without Microsoft login)
-
Fill in user information and choose a password

-
After this step, you must verify your email address.

-
Follow the steps until you are logged into your user profile:

-
You can now log in to the organization administration tool: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/orgadmin
Single License¶
The administrator must invite all end users who need access to the license system. See Organization Administration Tool for instructions on inviting users. Invited users receive an email invitation that must be accepted. Upon acceptance, users must log in with SSO or create an account with email and password. The user profile is managed here: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/en/user/profile
Note
Only organization administrators have access to: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/orgadmin
You can invite all end users to the Employees... group by uploading a CSV file, and then assign access to licenses. This can be done directly on the user under Users, or for group members under Groups. You can also invite users directly to the license, in addition to the Employees group.
When the end user starts using Gemini Terrain, the license is locked to that user. There can only be one member in the group containing a single license.
If the license needs to be transferred to another user, the administrator must contact Volue.
Assigning a single license to an end user
-
Find the relevant license under Groups and the Name column.

-
Enter name and email, and click Invite.

-
Under Invitations, you can see if the user has accepted:

-
Under Groups, it should look like this:

Multi-user License¶
The administrator must invite all end users into the organization in 10Duke. See Organization Administration Tool for instructions on inviting users. Invited users receive an email invitation that must be accepted. Upon acceptance, users must log in with SSO or create an account with email and password. The user profile is managed here: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/en/user/profile
Note
Only organization administrators have access to: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/orgadmin
Users can be invited directly to the correct group (license) in addition to the Employees group. Alternatively, users can be added to the group (license) later. See Groups for more information.
If you want to expand the multi-user license with more users or modules, this must be ordered from Volue. Access to the license is managed by the administrator, who must always ensure that all users are invited into the license system and added to the correct group (license).
Organization Administration Tool¶
The organization administration tool is available at: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/orgadmin
In the organization administration tool, you get an overview of all licenses in the company and can manage access for end users to multi-user licenses. You also see which licenses and modules are actually in use.
Dashboard¶
Here you get a general overview of users and licenses in the organization.

Example of Dashboard showing the company's general overview
Groups¶
Here you see the different license numbers available to the company under Name.

Example of Groups
If the company purchases a single license, it will be listed here. In Members (the three dots on the far right of the row), you see which user is added to the group, i.e., who has access to the license. The license is locked to this user, and any change of user must be done via Volue. It is recommended to add extra information under description for better overview. Do this by clicking the three dots for details and then Edit.
Note
There is a standard Employees group in addition to the groups with licenses. All employees must be added to this group, as well as the group for the license they need access to.
Example
License 000009 was purchased for Magnus Tandberg, and he was then invited into the group by the administrator:

A single license can only have one member in the group containing the license.
If the company has a multi-user license, you can add all users who need access to this license. The administrator must ensure that everyone who needs access to a given license is both invited into 10Duke and added to the group (license).
Example
License 000008 is a multi-user license with one simultaneous user. To give users access to the license, they must be added as members of the group (license).

Users¶
Here you can manage all users, add new employees via invitation, or remove people who have left the company.

You can invite individuals or upload a CSV file with names and usernames (email). The CSV file must have two columns:

Example of CSV file shown in Excel, with column A for first and last name and column B for username (email)
Invitations¶
Here you get an overview of who has been invited as a user in the company and whether they have accepted the invitation. You can also invite new users here.

Example of inviting users
Users receive an email invitation that must be accepted. Upon acceptance, users must log in with SSO or create an account with email and password. Once this is done, the user can start using Gemini Terrain. Note that only organization administrators have access to: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/orgadmin
Licenses¶
Under Licenses, you find the Entitlement column, which shows all licenses and modules the company has, described by license number.
You can sort by license number by clicking the arrows at the top of the column, and you can search for license number at the top right.

In this example, the company Tøsses tjenester AS has six licenses: 000003, 000006, 000007, 000008, 000009, and 000010.
Other columns show: * Reserved - Shows if any seats are reserved for specific users. The administrator can reserve a seat, i.e., access to a license for a user. This may be relevant if one or more users should always have access to a multi-user license over others.
-
Seats total - Shows how many seats you have per license. For single licenses, there is always only one seat, while for multi-user licenses, it is as many as you have purchased.
-
Seats consumed - Shows how many and which licenses/modules are in use.

By going to Usage, you can see how many licenses are in use

-
Seats available shows how many and which licenses are available.
For End Users¶
How to Get Access to a License¶
Report your need for a license to your employer. The employer makes an agreement with Volue to purchase a license for you.
Once the agreement is made, you receive an email from license@volue.com. This is an invitation that must be accepted to gain access to the license. You are only invited into the organization upon first use of a license in the company. Once you have accepted the invitation, verified your email address, and logged in with SSO or created an account, you do not need to repeat the steps below.
Instructions
-
The email looks like this (see image below). Check your spam folder if you do not find it in your inbox.

-
Click "Review Your Invitation* to accept the invitation.

-
Log in with Microsoft Entra ID (SSO), or create a new account with username and password. We recommend everyone with Microsoft Office 365 login to use the same account and choose Entra login (SSO).

-
Then you must validate your email address:

-
When your email address is validated, you are logged into your user profile: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/no/user/profile
Note
Note that this is only the website for your user profile. The actual Org.admin page is here: https://licensing.geminisuite.com/orgadmin Also note that only the organization administrator in the company (license contact) has access to the organization administration page.

-
You can now close the website and start Gemini Terrain. If the browser pops up again (Gemini Terrain checks if you are logged in), you can close it and continue in Gemini Terrain.

A license check is performed every 10 minutes, so you must be online.
Note
This is a browser login and should not be confused with the login to Gemini Connected in the Project menu in Gemini Terrain.
Frequently Asked Questions¶
-
What should you do if an end user with a single license leaves the company and a new employee needs to take over the license?
The organization administrator must contact Volue to change the contact person (end user) on the license. It is not possible for the administrator to change end users on single licenses in the organization administration tool.
-
What should you do if an end user forgets to close Gemini Terrain and occupies a seat in a multi-user license?
The organization administrator should first try to contact the user so they can close Gemini Terrain. If this is not possible, the administrator can block the user via the license overview. Then wait 10 minutes for the token to expire, and the user will be automatically logged out. The seat will then be available for other users. If the same user needs access again, the block must be removed. Alternatively, the administrator can contact Volue.
-
A customer has a multi-user license with 4 simultaneous users. When user 4 closes Gemini Terrain, does the administrator need to assign user 5 the available seat, or does this happen automatically?
The organization administrator can assign more users the right to use Gemini Terrain, but only 4 users can use the program at the same time. User 5 can start Gemini Terrain when one of the 4 others has closed the program. No manual assignment is required.
-
Where is the 10Duke license server located?
The license service is hosted on AWS in Ireland.
-
We have a USB license that several employees share. How is this solution replaced by the new system?
USB licenses were intended to be moved between PCs, not shared among several people. With the new system, USB licenses are no longer available. Login now uses username and password or SSO (Single Sign-On).
!!! note A single license is only available to one person and cannot be transferred between multiple users. If you want to switch between users, you need a multi-user license, where all users are invited and only one can use the license at a time. If you have two multi-user licenses, two users can use the license simultaneously, but there is no limit to how many can share the license.
-
Can you still move the license between different PCs, for example between the office and home?
Yes, you can switch between different PCs since authentication is cloud-based with username and password or SSO. Close the program on one PC before opening it on another and logging in. Note that you must close Gemini Terrain for the license to be released automatically. The organization administrator can release a seat in a multi-user license (see question 2), but for single licenses, you must contact Volue.
-
Do you get an overview of which licenses and modules belong to which license?
Yes, on the 10Duke web portal you get a full overview of licenses and modules.
-
Does the new license arrangement affect the ability to retrieve/import old Gemini Terrain projects into version 20?
No, all projects can be converted to version 20, regardless of previous version. We recommend converting stepwise via each version. Contact us if you need older versions.
-
Can a unique user have access to both a single license and a multi-user license?
Yes, an end user can have access to multiple licenses. Under Help – About in Gemini Terrain, the user can see which license is being used and switch between available licenses.
-
Can an end user switch between usernames to access licenses on other usernames?
Yes. For example, if you need to switch between firstname.lastname@volue.com and firstname.lastname@powel.no, log out of your user profile at https://licensing.geminisuite.com/user/profile and close Gemini Terrain. Then start Gemini Terrain and log in with the other user profile.
-
I get an error message even though I have internet access:

This is often because something is blocking
TER.EXEfrom starting https://licensing.geminisuite.com. Typical causes are firewall or antivirus programs. Try disabling such programs and try again. -
I get a license problem error message:

This can be due to several reasons:
- Check that you have access to the license via the organization administrator, and that you are added to both the desired license group and the Employees group.
- Make sure you can log in at https://licensing.geminisuite.com/user
- Check that the date and time on your PC are correct. Errors here may be detected as an attempt at misuse.
