Chat Assistant — User Guide

This guide shows how you can ask questions to the built-in chat assistant in Gemini Terrain to get quick and useful help.

About the chat assistant

The built-in chat assistant is an intelligent help system that uses artificial intelligence to answer questions about Terrain, working methods, functions, and common tasks. It helps you quickly with guidance, explanations, and examples directly in the program.

How it works

  • The chat assistant analyzes the text you write and suggests answers based on knowledge about the tool.
  • It does not use personal information or local files, but only what you type into the conversation.
  • It does not learn directly from your use, but is improved over time through updates from the provider.

What you can use it for

  • Explanation of functions and concepts
  • Step-by-step guides
  • Troubleshooting suggestions and checklists
  • Tips on workflow and tool selection

What it does not do

  • Does not perform actions in the program
  • Does not have access to project data or local files
  • Suggestions must be validated by you before use
  • Is a supplement – not a replacement – for professional judgment

Privacy and data security

  • Text you write is only used to generate answers, not for training the model.
  • Do not enter sensitive information or confidential project details.
  • The chat log can be deleted when you want.

When you should contact support

The chat assistant helps with how you perform tasks, but not always why something doesn't work.

Contact customer support for:

  • Program errors, crashes, or installation problems
  • License or login errors
  • Project-specific errors that require direct access to data

How to use the chat assistant effectively

The chat assistant in Gemini Terrain can help you with everything from simple questions to more advanced technical tasks. To get the best possible answers, it is important that you ask questions in a clear and concrete way.

Be clear about what you want help with

The chat assistant gives the best answers when you describe goals and actions precisely. Describe the task and situation as concretely as possible.

Example of good formulation

Do this:

How do I export a map section from Terrain to PDF with the correct scale?

Avoid:

How do I create a map?

The more precisely you describe the task, the better the AI assistant can give you the right procedure.

Use follow-up to fine-tune the answer

You can talk to the chat assistant like a professional colleague:

  • Show me an example.
  • Explain step 2 in more detail.
  • What does the error message I get mean?
  • Can you create a bullet list of the procedure?

This helps the chat assistant improve and refine your answer step by step.

When should you start a new conversation?

Start a new conversation when you:

  • Want to ask about a completely different topic (e.g., map production → data modeling)
  • Have received an answer that doesn't hit the mark and want to start "fresh"
  • Switch language or project

A new chat resets the context, so the AI assistant doesn't mix in previous questions.

Tips for better interaction

Advice for effective communication

  • Use simple sentences, but feel free to use technical terms (the chat assistant knows CAD/GIS terms).
  • Ask about alternatives: "Are there several ways to do this?"
  • Ask for explanation with example: "Can you show a concrete situation?"
  • Tell about your level: "I am a beginner, explain step by step."

The chat assistant has a user-friendly interface that makes it easy to get started and navigate between conversations.

Opening and closing the chat assistant

The chat assistant is opened from the main menu in Gemini Terrain. When open, it appears as a separate window that can:

  • Be moved and resized as needed
  • Be closed by clicking X in the upper right corner
  • Be minimized to work on other tasks simultaneously
