Important: Transition from Gemini Terrain version 18 to 19 for ongoing projects¶
From version 18 to 19 of Gemini Terrain, the methodology for how quantities are registered and handled from Gemini Terrain is changing. The changes are so significant that the Gemini Quantities service is simultaneously being renamed to Gemini QuantiFlow to highlight this distinction.
Options when transitioning to the new version¶
For ongoing projects, you must decide whether you want to either:
- Continue with the old method, and thus continue with version 18 in the relevant projects
- Switch to version 19 and the new method with minimal effort. Note that Gemini ProAdm must also be updated to the new version to handle this. The new versions can be found on our support and web pages.
The changes are based on feedback from our users, including to give Gemini Terrain users greater flexibility. The major changes are listed in the table below:
| Gemini QuantiFlow: Gemini Terrain version 19 | Gemini Quantities: Gemini Terrain version 18 and older |
|---|---|
| When a quantity is registered, it is the total quantity on the selected item in the selected file that is registered, as calculated in Gemini Terrain at the time of registration. Gemini QuantiFlow calculates the difference in quantity from registration to registration, as well as the total quantity from the various data sources. | When a quantity was reported, it was the difference in quantity since the previous registration that was registered, while Gemini Quantities calculated the total value of the item and from the various files. |
| Users can edit data and register a new quantity without removing previous registrations. | Need to reset (remove) registered quantities to correct geometry/mass types. |
| Quantities are registered from files that are closed for editing, and the registration itself does not cause any changes to the data. The file version is registered along with the registered quantities, so that the calculation basis at that time can be retrieved if needed. | Quantities were registered from files that were open for editing, where information about registered quantities was entered into the data and visible to the user directly in the drawings where the file was used. This meant that data used in quantity registration was locked for further editing. |
| Improved identification of contract posts, with support for following up changes to the contract's items. | Not full support for updating contract posts from Gemini ProAdm to the rest of the service. |
| Additional work with contract posts is made available from Gemini ProAdm to Gemini Connected and Terrain, and quantities can also be registered on these. Items for additional work are identified with a prefix before the item number, consisting of the type of addition and the addition's number from Gemini ProAdm. | No support for additional work. |
| If the same item is used on several mass types in the same file, these are collected in a common quantity proposal with a combined total value for the various mass types. | If the same item was used on several mass types in the same file, one quantity proposal per mass type was registered. |
Update existing project from version 18 to version 19¶
Follow the steps below to transition from the old to the new version of Gemini Terrain in ongoing projects, and thus switch to the new methodology with Gemini QuantiFlow:
Instructions
- Make sure that the users of Gemini ProAdm have also updated to the latest version (Gemini ProAdm 5.0.2402.xxxxx or newer).
- It is advantageous that there are no quantities from Gemini Terrain awaiting validation in the web solution, since you cannot register new quantities until all previous quantities are approved or removed. Therefore, check this and have someone with the correct role perform this, or reset from version 18. These quantity proposals can also be deleted in Gemini Terrain 19.
- Open Gemini Terrain and open the relevant project. Say Yes to convert the project to version 19.
- Open drawing used for quantity registration.
- Go to Settings Gemini Terrain... - Contract posts - Manage contract posts so the contract is loaded, and click OK out of the dialogs.
- Work in Gemini Terrain as normal. When files are opened for editing, the contract posts are updated when they are saved and closed again. At the same time, old information about quantity deliveries in the files is also removed, so mass types and geometry are no longer locked for editing.
- Register and document new quantities. Gemini QuantiFlow handles the transition from the existing quantities registered with the old method by validation and transfers these to Gemini ProAdm. As this is done, the values for Previously approved and Difference in the dialog are updated.
- Repeat steps 5-6.
Special case: Files with the same file GUID¶
This is an issue that is unlikely to have occurred, but may still happen. Therefore, the handling is described below.
If you have copied files outside of Gemini Terrain, so that you have multiple files with the same internal file GUID and the same or different file names, these will appear as one file for the quantities registered from them, even if the files are in a subfolder or other cloud projects within the Gemini Connected project. The total value will still be correct in the quantity history and Gemini ProAdm. We strongly recommend cleaning up such error situations and saving such files as new copies using the program's built-in functionality (Save copy as) before proceeding.
Warning
Note that if you need to delete all quantities for such files, the quantities from the others with the same file GUID will also be deleted.
In version 19, files used in quantity registration are identified based on multiple criteria, so the problem will not occur even though the copying procedure should not be used. It is also not allowed to register quantities from multiple files with the same file GUID in version 19.
