Folder Structure During Installation

The program's folder structure is built based on information we provide during installation.

We are asked to specify a target folder for the program. The default choice for this is C:\Program Files\Gemini\TerXX\, where XX stands for the version number. If we install without customizing the folders, we will also get:

  • User folder (folder for user customizations)
  • Data folder (current project folder)
  • CloudCache folder (folder for working storage of cloud projects)

The first time you install Gemini Terrain on your PC with a standard installation, you will get the following target folders, where XX stands for the version number (Windows 11/10):

  • C:\Program Files\Gemini\TerXX
  • C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Gemini\TerXX\Data
  • C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Gemini\TerXX\User
  • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Gemini\CloudCache

Note

This folder structure follows Windows recommendations. The recommendations state that the program should be placed under Program Files and local projects under My Documents. Cloud projects are stored in the cloud but have a local working copy in the CloudCache folder under AppData.

Alternative Folder Structure

The program can easily be installed directly in the same root directory as we did in previous versions. In this case, we simply replace the paths that the program suggests during installation setup.

After the program is installed, we can view the folder structure using the Show Installed Directories... dialog under Help - About.
