Discipline Models¶

It is now common for various disciplines to develop 3D models for their field, such as discipline models for roads, water and sewage, signs, structures, landscape, etc.

VIPS Models¶

For roads, most large facilities are designed in the VIPS software package. Since Gemini Terrain can import VIPS projects, it is natural to request this.

When we import VIPS projects, we get not only the road's horizontal and vertical geometry but also the input data. This means we can rebuild the road against our own terrain.

DWG/DXF Models¶

Other discipline models are normally delivered in 3D-DWG format, for example from ViaNova coordination models. We can import these into application layers since they are created in map coordinates.

Tip

In cases where we receive DXF/DWG files with local coordinates, these can be georeferenced.

IFC Models¶

IFC is also a widely used format for discipline models, particularly for structures. Gemini Terrain supports IFC files, and these can be visualized and used together with other data sources in the project.
