Data Sources for Raster Data (orthophoto)

Orthophoto

We can use raster data as a background in plan view.

Some relevant raster data can be:

  • Traditional orthophotos
  • Topographic raster maps
  • Orthophotos from drone mapping
  • Etc.

Example of raster data as background in plan view:

We can also drape this image over the entire terrain model in 3D, or link it to a specific layer.

Note

In Gemini Terrain, users define the extent of the terrain model themselves. If we have a raster control file (.bgr file), we can ask the program to retrieve a section that fits the terrain model area.

WMS Services

With WMS application layers in Gemini Terrain, we can connect to WMS services.

The Norwegian Mapping Authority offers a range of free viewing services to the public. These services can be used freely according to the applicable terms of use. On the Norwegian Mapping Authority's website, you will find an overview of available open WMS services and their status.

Note

From Gemini Terrain 14, areas outside the raster images are not drawn if they are coded with an "alpha channel," which means areas where the image itself specifies that no information exists. Previously, all areas outside the definition area were drawn with a solid color.
