Existing Situation (FKB)

The existing situation refers to all thematic FKB data for roads, railways, culverts, bridges, buildings, and other above-ground objects. This data is mostly delivered in .sos format (SOSI), whether it comes from municipalities/mapping authorities or has been specifically surveyed for the project.

SOSI is a Norwegian standard for data exchange and stands for Samordnet Opplegg for Stedfestet Informasjon (Coordinated Approach for Geographic Information). The Norwegian Mapping Authority has also created a program to view and check SOSI files. The program is free and is called SOSI-vis / SOSI-kontroll.

Importing SOSI Data

Gemini Terrain handles SOSI files well and has dedicated batch functions for importing such data into application layers. Since SOSI is standardized, we have created specific import profiles and presentation templates for this type of data.

Note

The program also reads the coordinate system in the SOSI file during import. If the coordinate system in the file differs from the coordinate system in the project, you will be asked whether to transform the data. A typical situation is when data is delivered in EUREF, but the project is to be carried out in NTM.
