Inserting figures

Introduction

We can insert various figures such as 3DS and other general files like images into the drawing.

We recommend inserting IFC/DWG and PDF files via the models tab as described in more detail in the section Models.

Inserting a general file

  1. Select Insert - Miscellaneous files - Insert file
  2. Click Browse...
  3. Select file type, for example BMP, and browse to the file
  4. Select the file and click Open
  5. Check Place with crosshair and Use lower left corner as reference
  6. Insert the figure dynamically

Many useful functions are available on the right mouse button during dynamic figure placement:

Context menu for dynamic figure placement

The shortcuts can be seen on the right side of the menu.

Activate the icon for Use terrain height Use terrain height when inserting figures in plan view, and the figures will automatically get the terrain height at the insertion point.

JavaScript figures

A separate toolset has been created for figures. The toolset contains DDS-CAD figures with JavaScript overlay:

3DS figures

The program handles the insertion of such files. The 3DS format (*.3ds) is widely used and most 3D tools support it.

On the internet, it is possible to find cars, people, and other special objects that can help make the 3D visualization even better.

Note

*.3ds files come from 3D Studio Viz, while *.max files come from 3D Studio Max. However, 3D Studio Max has a function to save the figure as a 3DS file.

Inserting a 3DS figure

  1. Select Insert - Import file - Import 3D Studio object
