Road Stakeout Model

An imported VIPS project can be exported to various formats. If you are unsure which format to use, you must contact the supplier of your equipment. For some software/equipment, it is clear from the name which format should be selected, while for others it may be less clear. For example, GEO uses standard LandXML.

The export formats available in SFI model are:

  • LandXML (cross sections)
  • LandXML (3D lines)
  • Leica DBX database
  • Visual Digger LandXML (3D lines)
  • Topcon LandXML (cross sections)
  • Trimble DC 10
  • Trimble RXL
  • VIPS ascii
  • Anpakke

When creating stakeout data for an imported VIPS project, it is the layer type VIPS theoretical that we export from the SFI model.

Procedure for export to total station

  1. Open drawing for road stakeout model
  2. Import VIPS project with Insert - Import file - Import data to SFI model...
  3. Mark the centerline in the plan view window
  4. Right-click and select SFI properties...
  5. Open the Import/export tab
  6. Click Export to field...
  7. Select Format, for example Leica DBX database
  8. Select Layer type, for example VIPS theoretical
  9. Select Layer name, for example Surface
  10. Click Folder... and select target folder for export
  11. Click Export

If we have built Gemini theoretical layers, we can also export these, but then we may need to check the profiles manually first. Is Gemini theoretical built the same as VIPS theoretical? Gemini will normally build Gemini theoretical identical to VIPS theoretical, but differences may occur as a result of us not reading all VIPS tables (always check the import log) or having different construction rules than Novapoint.
