Users and Login in Gemini Connected¶
This documentation describes how user management and login work in Gemini Connected and Gemini Terrain when working with cloud projects and services.
User Management¶
Users in Gemini Connected are retrieved from a cloud-based user directory. This user directory can be either:
- The user directory in Office 365
- A standalone Microsoft Entra ID user directory
The user directory is shared across all our involved solutions, so you only need one username that is used, for example, both in Gemini Terrain and on Gemini Connected web. As a user in Gemini Terrain, you will notice this as a separate login in the project menu when working in cloud projects.
Purpose of User Management
User management ensures that each user receives the correct permissions in solutions, projects, and across companies, and that data in cloud projects is adequately protected.
Tip
You can log in both as an internal user in your own organization and as an external guest user added to another organization.
Roles in Gemini Connected¶
Each user is assigned roles in the Connected project. Roles can vary from project to project. Role assignment is done in the web solution.
Note
The standard role Surveying Engineer covers the most common tasks in Gemini Terrain. Some tasks are reserved for the surveying manager role.
Logging in to Gemini Terrain¶
In Gemini Terrain, logging in to Gemini Connected is done via the project menu. Here you enter your username and password.
Storage of Login Data
By default, login data is stored for 90 days, so you don't have to log in every time you open a cloud project.
From the same function, you can also switch user/organization.
Access to Cloud Projects¶
As a general rule, you must be logged in to list Gemini Connected and cloud projects. However, in the Recently Used Projects directory at the top of the project list, cloud projects will also be listed. From Recently Used Projects, it is possible to open drawings in cloud projects in read-only mode, even if you are not logged in to Gemini Connected.
Offline Work¶
Logging in with a username and password requires internet access. Nevertheless, it is possible to work in Gemini Terrain for periods without internet access:
- You can view data and work that has been done previously
- You will not be able to communicate with the cloud solution
Logging in with the Same Username¶
Warning
It is not recommended that a user be logged in to Gemini Terrain on multiple machines simultaneously. This can lead to:
- A file can be locked in multiple places at the same time
- You lose control over which version of the file ends up being synchronized
Therefore, log out if you plan to continue working on another PC.
