Updating Files in Cloud Projects¶
Introduction¶
This text describes how to receive changes made by others in a cloud project. Note that all uploads may take some time, depending on the speed of your network connection and the size of the file being uploaded.
File Types and Update Mechanisms¶
Project File¶
Changes made to the project file include:
- Project information (from the Project menu)
- Settings Gemini Terrain... - Project (from a drawing in the project)
Changes to the project file are uploaded immediately to Gemini Connected when you click OK in the dialog where you make changes, and are downloaded again after a few seconds by others who have the project open. Some dialogs will be unavailable to others as long as one person has them open.
Drawings¶
Drawings are locked when opened in write mode, and they will then be unavailable to others, except in read-only mode. Typical changes to drawings include adding or removing application layers, roads, and other models. These changes are not saved in Gemini Connected until you relinquish control of the drawing, which happens when you close the drawing.
Note
If one person has a drawing open in read-only mode, and another person opens the drawing and makes changes, these changes will not be immediately synchronized for the person in read-only mode. To see these changes, you must close the drawing and open it again. The same applies to inserted models, such as .DWG, .BIM, .IFC, and so on.
Application Layers, Roads, Construction Pits, and Intersections¶
When application layers, roads, construction pits, or intersections already exist in a drawing, they will be continuously updated in all drawings where they are located. The changes are uploaded, and consequently updated for everyone else, when the person who made the changes relinquishes control of the file.
Tip
It's not enough to just save - the person who has locked the file must also unlock the file by right-clicking and selecting Open for editing or by clicking the # button found in the toolbar for Planning, design, and execution.
Registration Layers from Gemini 3D Field¶
When a registration application layer is created in Gemini 3D Field, it is temporarily stored in the root directory of the local copy of the project. When the registration application layer is sent, it is copied into the \Field Registration\ directory, and the files (.aly, .gmi, and any image attachments) are uploaded to the cloud. This happens regardless of how the rules for this directory are set up in the dialog for Synchronized folders.
Note
The application layer will not automatically appear in any drawing, but will immediately be available for manual addition in all of the project's drawings.
Opening Locked Files¶
Warning
Unlocking files in the web solution for Gemini Connected may result in unsaved changes being lost. This function is intended for cases where the person who has locked a file is unavailable, and project progress is prevented as long as the file remains locked.
The role of Project Manager has extended rights, such as the ability to delete files and open locked files. The role of Project Administrator can also open locked files and administer the project in the web solution, but cannot perform the other tasks that the surveying engineer and project manager can.
