Transforming Data in Application Layers

This documentation describes how you can transform data between different coordinate systems when importing and exporting data in Gemini Terrain.

Transformation for Different Types of Application Layers

For standard application layers, you can transform data during import and export. This applies to:

  • Standard formats
  • Laser scan formats LAS/LAZ

Note

Surveying application layers can be transformed directly because they contain information about coordinate systems and height systems.

Prerequisites for Transformation

To transform data during import and export, a transformation between the two coordinate systems must be defined in Gemini Terrain.

Automatic Control of Coordinate System

During import, the program automatically checks the coordinate system and height system in the file against the settings in the project.

File Formats with Coordinate System Information

Currently, Gemini Terrain only reads coordinate system information from: * SOSI files * LAS/LAZ files

For these files, you will only be asked to select a transformation if there is a difference between the coordinate system in the project and the input file.

For all other file formats, you will always be asked about transformation if a coordinate system and/or height system is set in the project.

Available Transformation Types

Gemini Terrain has several transformation types available. These are described in more detail in the chapter on Surveying.
