Edit Geoid Model¶
Use this dialog to edit the properties of a geoid model.
Where do I find the dialog?¶
The dialog is opened from coordinate system settings when you edit geoid model parameters.
Dialog Elements¶
Standard Geoid Height¶
If this is unknown, the value 0 (zero) is used. Otherwise, you enter the average value for the area you usually use for the coordinate system. The value is important for distance reduction and is specified in meters.
Note
The value specified here is used as a suggestion when creating new projects with the current coordinate system.
Calculation Type¶
Instead of using an average geoid height, you can use official geoid models. If no geoid model is selected for the current coordinate system, it shows None under calculation type.
Note
Standard geoid height will be used outside the geoid model's coverage area.
Here you select which calculation type to use.
Geoid File Name¶
Here you select which geoid file to use.
In Norway, these files have the extension *.bin and should be located in the gemini\bin directory. The Norwegian Mapping Authority is responsible for maintaining these geoid models.
Info
The geoid model is dynamic, meaning that updates are released by the Norwegian Mapping Authority as they develop improved models.
