Longitudinal Profile

Use this function to generate a longitudinal profile along a horizontal curvature (line definition) in an SFI model.

Where can I find the dialog?

In the context menu of the terrain model drawing, select the Generate Longitudinal Profile... icon.

Using the dialog

The function behaves slightly differently depending on which calculation method is active in the model (Parametric, Manual, 3D Lines, or Manual/3D Lines).

Info

With the automatic calculation method, all existing longitudinal profile data will be deleted before new data is generated. For the other calculation methods, existing longitudinal profile data that is not regenerated will remain unchanged.

If the file contains a longitudinal profile, you can view it with the Show Longitudinal Profile button without generating a new one.

All application layers that define a stratum can provide Gemini Terrain with physical layers in the longitudinal profile. The list shows relevant strata. Check which ones to include in the profile generation.

Procedure

  1. Click the Generate Longitudinal Profile button to create the profile without displaying it. The program opens the presentation (plan/3D) that was active before generation.
  2. Alternatively, click the Generate and Show Longitudinal Profile button to display the profile in the Longitudinal Profile Editing window (LSECT_EDIT).

Profile Area

With the Pick Area... button, you can specify where on the line the longitudinal profile should be created.

Procedure

  1. Point and left-click to register the profile start.
  2. Point and left-click to register the profile end.

You can also manually enter the interval in the dialog's input field.

Options

You can set some options during profile generation:

  • Include 3D objects (advanced section)
  • Calculate from adjusted terrain

Info

The options are described in more detail in the general help.
