Height Difference

Use this dialog to override the vertical curvature.

Where to Find the Dialog

In longitudinal profile editing, select Vertical Curvature, and click the Diff. Height button in the dialog.

Using height difference is especially relevant for improvement works or reinforcement of existing roads when the vertical curvature of the existing road is satisfactory.

Sections

The sections for Diff. Height are specified with From profile - To profile. There is no limit to the number of sections (intervals). The program uses the vertical curvature outside these intervals.

Height Difference

A given value for height difference is the distance between the top physical layer (terrain surface) and the road surface. In the intervals where height difference is specified, this overrides the vertical curvature.

Figure: A = Road surface (given with diff. height), B = Vertical curvature

The height of the top physical layer is taken from the cross-sections. Whether the program uses VIPS or Gemini physical layers is determined by the settings under SFI Properties.

Note

If any of the cross-sections do not have physical layers where diff. height is defined, the program uses the vertical curvature for these.
