Side Boundary

Use this dialog to define a side boundary, that is, how far to the side of the centerline the profile should be built. Side boundaries can be useful for bridges, culverts, and connecting multiple roads.

You can specify side boundaries in several ways:

  1. Surface number
  2. Distance (from centerline)
  3. Surface and distance (from end of surface)
  4. Line ID

If there are values in both the surface and distance columns, the distance is added to the end of the surface. If a line ID is specified, it overrides any values in the surface and distance columns.

The side boundary or boundaries are marked with a vertical, dashed line in the cross-section.

Preview

The dialog does not have its own preview window, but in cross-section editing, there is a direct preview in the cross-section. Here, you can both zoom and, for example, measure distances. Material types are also updated when editing the table. You can also change the profile number in the dialog, and the cross-section will be updated accordingly.

Sections

The sections (profile intervals) for the side boundary are specified with From profile – To profile. To indicate a break in the side boundary, enter - (dash) in the distance field.

Enter the profile number manually in the field or by pointing/using a snap point in the drawing. Snap points become active when the column is selected (blue).

Surface and Distance

Enter the surface and distance directly in the list for the left or right side. A value in the distance column is added to the specified surface.

Stop at surface

Left side
Profile Surface Distance
1240 -1.01 0.000
1250 -1.01 0.000

In this case, the profile will stop after surface -1.01 in profile 1240.

Stop at distance (negative)

Left side
Profile Surface Distance
1240 - -2
1250 - -2

In this case, the profile will stop 2 meters to the left of the centerline in profile 1240.

Stop at distance (positive)

Left side
Profile Surface Distance
1240 - 1
1250 - 1

In this case, the profile will stop 1 meter to the right of the centerline in profile 1240.

Line ID

Enter the ID of the line to be used as the side boundary.

The line can be imported from VIPS or constructed in plan view using the Extra Lines... function.

VIPS Import

The VIPS import reads the following tables: SIDEAVV, SIDEAVH.
