Export Selection to Field

Where do I find the dialog?

Right-click in the vertical list field for application layers, select Export selection to field...

Use this dialog to export a selection (points, lines, polygons, and triangle net) in application layers to field.

Tip

If you want to export all data in the application layer, you can also use the options in the properties dialog for application layers.

Using the Dialog

Procedure

  1. Mark the object(s) in the map
  2. Select Export - Export selection to field from the context menu
  3. Select the desired format from the list
  4. Optionally change available settings (will vary depending on format)
  5. Click Browse... or Data path... to select target folder
  6. Click Export

Available Formats

  1. LandXML (points, lines, polygons, and triangle net)
  2. LandXML DTM (triangle net)
  3. Leica DBX PLA Job (points, lines, polygons)
  4. Leica DBX Road Job (lines)
  5. Leica DBX DTM Job (triangle net)
  6. Leica HeXML (points, lines, polygons, and triangle net)
  7. Trimble LandXML (points, lines, and polygons)
  8. Trimble JobX (points, lines, polygons)
  9. Trimble TTM (triangle net)
  10. Trimble FileFlipper GCS900 (points, lines, polygons, and triangle net)
  11. Trimble FileFlipper Earthworks (points, lines, polygons, and triangle net)

  13. Topcon database (points, lines, and polygons)
  14. KOF (points and lines)
  15. IREDES Drillplan (lines)

Key Attribute

The key attribute becomes "code" in the file.

6450156.880000 443239.010000 59.356915

Gemini Terrain uses S_OBJID as the name for objects in LandXML files.

If a value for S_OBJID is not found, the program uses Id with a prefix depending on the object type:

  • Points: P_
  • Lines: L_
  • Polygon: A_

For triangle net, the following rule applies: Application layer name and Id, for example Property_1.

Include Group Names in Attribute Names

Many attributes can be located under a group or subgroups, for example:

By default, we only export the attribute name, but we can include group names which will then provide the complete attribute name.

Note

If we export with group names and later receive a survey file with group names, the data will have the same structure in Gemini Terrain after import.

Format-Specific Details

LandXML

This option exports data to standard LandXML. In addition to geometry, all properties are also included.

Leica DBX

These options trigger RoadRunnerAddOn which converts the LandXML file produced in Gemini Terrain to a DBX database.

The Max. circle deviation option becomes active when we select Leica DBX PLA job. This is because the job does not support curves. Any curves in the lines are split into many small line segments. We control how detailed this splitting becomes with the option that specifies the size of the arrow height.

Tip

If curves are important, we must export the lines with Leica DBX Road Job.

Trimble

Trimble LandXML does not support properties on points, so these are omitted from this export.

Trimble JobX supports both geometry and properties. During export, a key attribute is selected which becomes the code in the survey book, and it produces a jxl file with geometry and an fxl file with properties that can be imported into the survey equipment.

Info

The key attribute must contain attribute codes defined in the application layer's properties. Note that all attributes currently become Text, we do not support Date, for example.

If the data contains lines with radius, you must go via road model and Trimble RXL to export the radii.

To export to Trimble GCS900 and Earthworks, we must download FileFlipper from Trimble's websites and install it on the PC. Gemini Terrain starts FileFlipper in the background and converts to Trimble formats without the user needing to deal with FileFlipper.

Topcon Database

Gemini Terrain exports the data to a LandXML file, which is then converted to Topcon database.
