Split/Delete Objects Against Line/Polygon

Use this dialog to split and delete objects in a selection, meaning objects you have marked on the screen. The selection can include objects from several different application layers, including layers other than the active application layer. In the dialog, you can choose which application layers to include in the operation.

Where can I find the dialog?

In the context menu of the terrain model drawing, select Tools - Split/Delete Objects Against Line/Polygon...

Available Methods

You can choose between three methods:

  • Split objects
  • Delete objects
  • Split and delete objects

Lines can be split against a line or a polygon, while polygons, point clouds, and triangle nets can only be split against a polygon.

Warning

The function does not support splitting triangle nets with overhangs, such as discipline models for constructions.

You can select the geometry by pointing to an existing object or drawing a temporary one on the screen. You can also delete other objects in the selection, such as points and texts.

Usage Examples

How to Split Lines Against a Line?

Procedure

  1. Select the relevant lines on the screen.
  2. Select the icon for Split/Delete Objects Against Line/Polygon... in the context menu.
  3. Click Point to Existing Line... and left-click the line/polygon you want to split against.
  4. Click OK.

Note

The Automatic Topology Cleanup function can also be used to split lines at intersection points. The difference is that topology cleanup splits both lines at the intersection point.

How to Split Many Lines Against a Polygon and Delete Lines Outside?

Procedure

  1. Select the relevant lines on the screen.
  2. Select the icon for Split/Delete Objects Against Line/Polygon... in the context menu.
  3. Click Point to Existing Polygon... and left-click the polygon you want to split against.
  4. Select Split and delete objects and Outside polygon.
  5. Click OK.

You can do the same with point clouds.

How to Split Triangle Nets and Delete Triangles Inside?

For splitting triangle nets, you have several options. You can split exactly, or choose to assign affected triangles either to the triangle net inside the polygon or to the triangle net outside the polygon.

Procedure

  1. Select the triangle net you want to split and remove on the screen.
  2. Select the icon for Split/Delete Objects Against Line/Polygon... in the context menu.
  3. Click Point to Existing Polygon... and left-click the polygon you want to split against.
  4. Select Split and delete objects and Inside polygon. Also check the selected option for triangle net.
  5. Click OK.
