Filter¶
Use this dialog to determine which objects should be displayed and select filters for 2D and 3D viewing. You can also create custom filters as needed or retrieve filters from templates.
Where do I find the dialog?¶
Select application layer (GMI) in the vertical list field, right-click (or double-click) and select Properties, then the Filter tab.
Using the dialog¶
Check or uncheck the Show objects field to determine which objects should be displayed in the application layer for the active filter.
When you create a new application layer, two filters will be defined, one for 2D presentation and one for 3D presentation. If you use templates other than Default.aly, these may also contain multiple predefined filters. The active filter for the presentation will also be the default choice for Edit filter when you open the dialog.
Filter levels¶
A filter in Gemini Terrain can have two levels:
Level 1 - Object type display:
You can choose to turn on and off display of all data for an object type. The object types in Gemini Terrain are line, point, text, polygon or triangle net. For surveying application layers you only have line, point and polygon.
You can also toggle object visibility directly in the horizontal list field for the active filter using the context menu and the [V] key. Using the menu option and shortcut [V] works the same as when you make changes in the dialog.
Level 2 - Attribute filter:
For each object type, you can define an attribute filter. An attribute filter consists of one or more properties with a corresponding selection of values. All objects that satisfy the filter will be displayed on the screen.
You can also define or change the active filter (shortcut [D]) and toggle display on and off (shortcut [F]) directly from the object list using the context menu or keyboard shortcuts.
Usage example
A typical example is surveyed points. These can have different theme codes such as pole, manhole, boundary point, terrain point, peak point, depression point, etc. You can then define an attribute filter that only shows the points that describe the terrain surface.

Procedure
- Double-click on the application layer in the list and select the Filter tab
- Change the default selection for Edit filter if you want to base it on another filter
- Check off relevant object types in the Show objects column (Level 1)
- For each object type, you can define an attribute filter in the Filter column by clicking Define... (Level 2)
- Click Save filter as...
- Enter filter name and click OK
Remember that you can also create/change the active filter from the context menu in the object list.
Change active filter for presentation¶
Procedure
- Double-click on the application layer in the list and select the Filter tab
- Turn object types on and off and/or define any property filters under Edit filter
- Click OK in the filter dialog and the changes are saved
With the Get from template button you can retrieve filters for 2D and 3D from a template. Be aware that existing content will be replaced.
Note
Filters do not affect layer calculations. Filters only affect which objects are displayed on the screen.
