Generate Boreholes Along Line

Use this dialog to generate boreholes along a line.

Where to Find the Dialog

On the toolbox, select the Generate Boreholes Along Line... icon.

Using the Dialog

A drilling plan provides the operator and drill rig with information about what should be drilled at a location. A drilling plan created in Gemini includes, in addition to the boreholes (3D lines), information about the drilling pattern, subdrilling, hole inclination, and hole type (contour, helper row/helper row 2, and blast holes).

You can create multiple drilling plans (write to result application layers) without closing the dialog. This allows you to create several alternatives, each placed on its own result application layer, while the dialog remains open.

You can also trim the boreholes against a triangle net for rock so that the length represents the hole depth. Select the triangle net for rock and the lines, then choose the Tools - Calculate Intersection Between Line(s) and Triangle Net function from the context menu.

Prerequisites

To generate a drilling plan, you must have a centerline, boundary lines, and a triangle net for drilling depth in an application layer.

To prepare the necessary data from models (SFI/XFI/EFI), you must first copy the required geometry to an application layer.

You can also generate boreholes only along the centerline, or also along the boundary lines. This is possible if you do not select a triangle net in the function. Note that in this case, the height of the line is used.

For borehole parameters, the pattern is calculated on the triangle net, and any value for subdrilling is added as an extension to the borehole afterward.

Procedure

  1. Prepare the necessary data for the function.
  2. Create a result application layer using the drilling plan template (this can also be done from the dialog).
  3. Select the Generate Boreholes Along Line... icon on the toolbox.
  4. Select the centerline by clicking on the screen.
  5. Select the boundary lines by clicking on the screen (it is possible to select only the right or left side).
  6. Select the triangle net by clicking on the screen.
  7. Set the desired parameters for the drilling pattern.
  8. Select the result application layer.
  9. Click Preview to see the result in 2D or 3D view.
  10. Click Build/Build and Close to write points and vectors to the result application layer.

Method and Angle for Blast Holes

The method and angle for blast holes can be the same for the entire drilling plan. If you want to change this for parts of the plan, you can define polygons with attributes in an application layer.

There is a dedicated template Salvehull_polygon for this purpose.

Exporting the Drilling Plan

The drilling plan can be exported to IREDES. The option is found in the context menu in the application layer list.

Procedure

  1. Select the application layer with the generated boreholes.
  2. Right-click and choose Export - Export Selection to Field...
  3. Select IREDES Drillplan as the format.

Info

If you want to change the horizontal rotation of some boreholes, you can select them and choose the Rotate Borehole Horizontally... function. This function is found in the horizontal list field for lines on the tools menu.
