Extract Centerline from 3D Object

Use this dialog to extract centerline(s) from 3D objects in an inserted IFC model, DWG file, or triangle net in the application layer.

Where can I find the dialog?

In the terrain model drawing context menu, select Tools - Extract Centerline from 3D Object...

Using the Dialog

This function can be used to calculate, for example, centerlines in 3D objects such as pipes, piles, and similar structures. The function also calculates the quality of the line, indicating how well the straight line fits the 3D object.

You can set a quality requirement, and only lines that meet this requirement will be placed on the result application layer. The calculated quality is also stored in the CL_Quality attribute.

Additionally, you can copy the attributes from the 3D object.

Bends will typically receive a low CL_Quality value, as the centerline does not follow the center of the bend.
