Create Buffer Polygons

Use this dialog to generate buffer polygons around points, lines, and polygons in application layers or layers in models (SFI/XFI/EFI).

Where can I find the dialog?

In the context menu of the terrain model drawing, select Tools - Create Buffer Polygon(s)...

Using the dialog

The following are supported for models:

  • SFI models – centerline and layers in the road body
  • XFI – surface layer
  • EFI – surface layer

Procedure

  1. Create the result application layer.
  2. Select objects (points, lines, centerlines, road body, etc.).
  3. Optionally, check to calculate in 3D.
  4. Optionally, check to create a union of the polygons.
  5. Select the application layer where the result should be placed.

Without options, you get three polygons

With the option to create a union of polygons, you get one polygon

With the option for 3D calculation

Note

Note that the function uses the average elevation value at intersection points.
