Point Cloud Display¶
Where can I find the dialog?¶
On the toolbar, select the icon for Gemini Terrain Settings..., then Display Large Point Clouds under Personal Settings.
Parameters for Drawing Large Point Clouds¶
With this option, you can control the maximum number of points drawn to the screen in GDI and OpenGL modes. When you are far away, the program will not draw all points regardless of these settings. As you navigate into the model, more and more points are drawn until the maximum limit is reached. For OpenGL mode, the maximum limit is 10 million points.
Note
This option only applies to screen drawing, not to editing functions such as Edit Point Cloud in 3D.
When displaying point clouds, you specify the maximum number of points per point cloud. For large point clouds, this may result in low density when zooming in. For OpenGL, you can solve this by enabling clipping. The maximum number of points will then apply to the part of the point cloud within the clipping area. This allows for much better detail in areas of interest.

Example without clipping
You can also change the number of pixels per point in plan and 3D views. Note that this only applies to OpenGL mode. Being able to change the visual size of points is especially useful during editing.
