Layout Parameters for Cross Sections

Use this dialog to define the appearance of the cross sections.

Where do I find the dialog?

On the toolbar, select Gemini Terrain Settings and then Project Presentation - Cross Sections: Layout.

Basic settings

With the option Lowest profile no. at top of sheet you can choose whether the profile numbers should be drawn ascending from the top or bottom of the sheet.

Layout type

Profile text at height

Profile number and height are drawn on the reference line for the cross section. Values for line length and gap between lines can be set when this type is selected. The text is drawn in the gaps.

Example

In the example below, road surface height annotation is reference and distance from reference height is set to 0.

Profile text at height

In this example, road surface height annotation reference and distance from reference height is set to 0

Rounding

You can see that the reference line is not drawn exactly at the road surface, but is rounded to whole meters.

Profile text over road

Profile number is drawn above center road, while height is drawn to the right of the reference line. Values for line length, gap between lines and number of lines can be set when this type is selected.

Example

In the example below, road surface height annotation is reference and distance from reference height is set to 0.

Profile text over road

In this example, road surface height annotation reference and distance from reference height is set to 0

Rounding

You can see that the reference line is not drawn exactly at the road surface, but is rounded to whole meters.

With the option Grid (5 mm) as background for all profiles, you get a grid drawn that covers the entire sheet.

Grid around profile

With this option, a grid is drawn around each cross section.

Grid around profile

Example of grid around profile

You can control the appearance of the grid with the options under Define grid...

You can also affect the size of the window with the option Minimum window height for a profile. If the cross section's extent is larger than minimum window height, it will automatically be expanded to cover the entire profile.

Window width

You can also control the width with the option Fixed window width in the dialog for inserting cross sections on sheet. This option applies to all layout types.

How to control the distance between profiles?

You set the distance between profiles in the field Distance between profiles. It is the distance between the reference lines that is specified.

Overlap control

The option Check against previous profile checks if there is overlap between consecutive profiles with the distance you have entered. The fixed distance is then automatically corrected where you have overlap.
