Map Excerpt¶
Use this dialog to create a map excerpt, an excerpt in the form of a VEC/CFI file, which can later be inserted into a presentation drawing.
Where do I find the dialog?¶
In the toolbox in terrain model drawing, select the icon Map Excerpt...
Naming Convention¶
The program will suggest a name for the map excerpt according to a fixed naming convention, for example Demo4V01, Demo4V02, etc. for Terrain project Demo. You can enter your own names and thus override what the program suggests.
Warning
Be aware that the program does not check used names in other drawings, and may therefore suggest names that are already in use.
Excerpts created with this function can later be inserted into a presentation drawing using the Insert map excerpt... dialog. The prerequisite is that the presentation drawing has a defined placeholder for map excerpts.
Area in mm¶
If you have a presentation drawing open with a placeholder for map excerpts before inserting a map excerpt in plan view, the program will automatically retrieve the area from this.

H = Horizontal, V = Vertical
If you change sheets in the drawing afterwards, for example from A3 to A2, you can retrieve new values with the Get values from current sheet button. If you have multiple presentation drawings open with placeholders for map excerpts, the program retrieves the values from the drawing you had active last.
Coordinates and Scale¶
Line stippling and text heights specified in various dialogs in the program are specified in mm. For example, the value 2 for text height will give 2 mm on the plot at standard scale (1:1000). The standard scale in the model can be found in the Drawing Settings dialog.
If we choose a different scale in the map excerpt, for example 1:10000, the following will happen:
Use Model Scale for Symbols and Text OFF¶
The text will still be 2 mm on the plot, but will appear 10 times larger in relation to the geometry as it is edited in the model.
Use Model Scale for Symbols and Text ON¶
Then the text on the plot will be scaled by 1/10, i.e., become 0.2 mm in size. Then geometry and text will have the same size ratio as when editing in the model.
Detail Level in Raster¶
We use the Detail level in raster option to set the resolution of the raster image in the vector file. This will typically be BGR or WMS application layers. Note that higher settings provide better resolution, but also smaller text size on labels from most WMS servers. Higher settings can also take a long time to download and process.
We have the following predefined detail levels, measured in pixels per inch (DPI):
- Low: 72 DPI
- Medium: 120 DPI
- High: 200 DPI
- Extreme: 300 DPI
In addition, the user can enter a DPI value themselves. For example, for large, custom-defined sheets, it may be relevant to use smaller values.
Auto-rotation of Texts¶
We can choose which texts in the model the function should auto-rotate. This choice applies to rotated map excerpts and will then compensate for this rotation, so that the texts will still be horizontal (readable) in the presentation drawing. For application layers, this only applies to texts that are originally unrotated. We normally want a text that we have rotated manually to remain unchanged in relation to the surroundings also in the presentation drawing.
Info
In presentation drawing, the program has a separate option to insert the map excerpt that was created in the model.
