Draw Road Body¶
Use this dialog to insert road body or 3D lines from SFI model into the drawing.
Where do I find the dialog?¶
On the toolbar in terrain model drawing, select the icon Road body...
Draw road body¶
We have two layer types for roads in Gemini Terrain:
- VIPS theoretical
- Gemini theoretical
VIPS theoretical is used for imported VIPS projects. After import, Gemini Terrain's SFI model will contain a road body as it is built in Novapoint's software package. The layers in this road body can be inserted into the drawing by selecting VIPS theoretical layer type.
Gemini theoretical layers are the result of construction in Gemini Terrain. For example, we may have designed a road in Gemini Terrain with parametric method or built road body anew against our own surveyed terrain after import of VIPS project.

We have four different methods to describe a road in Gemini Terrain:
- Parametric
- Manual
- 3D lines
- Manual/3D lines
All these methods will create a road body with Gemini theoretical layers. Then we can correspondingly insert the road body by selecting Gemini theoretical layers instead of VIPS theoretical.
Draw 3D lines¶
Draws all 3D lines in the SFI model. When we import for example 3D lines from LandXML, these end up under Gemini theoretical layer type.

Note
We can also build road body from 3D lines.
Draw lines outside drivable area¶
With this option we can exclude lines outside drivable area.
Info
You can read more about VIPS surfaces in VIPS surfaces for description of surface groups for manual method.
Info
You can read more about road parameters for description of parameters for parametric method.
Draw center line¶
With this option you can include the center line as well. You can thus include the center line without inserting the command for LineDef (*.sfi).
Draw lines for unusable masses¶
The option applies only to Surface.
If we check this option, you get lines drawn for vegetation, topsoil and mass replacement if these exist.

Example without the option checked

Example with the option checked
Draw cut and fill markings relative to center line¶
With the option active, the markings will be drawn relative to the center line. Without this option checked, the markings will be drawn relative to the cut and fill lines. The result is that they come out of sync on the left and right side after the first turn.

Example without the option checked
Application layer presentation¶
With this option we can draw the road body through an application layer. The advantage of this is that we get access to all presentation rules that exist here.
Procedure
- Create application layer with template
ModellPresentasjon.al_ - Open the property dialog for excavation
- Check Presentation and click the ... button
- Select the application layer you have created and click Open
- Click OK in the dialog (note that you can also turn presentation on/off in the application layer list)
The template ModellPresentasjon.al_ is a starting point for custom adaptations that we can save as custom templates.
Info
Read more about how to draw models through application layers in the user manual.
Adjust Terrain Grid¶
A road body can intervene in the terrain grid. We control this in the Drawing settings... dialog with the Perform intervention option.
We can choose to show this adjusted terrain grid with the Show adjusted grid option under layer settings for the application layer.
With the Adjust terrain grid option, you can choose whether only cut, fill, or both should adjust the terrain grid.
